If you ever thought sauces were boring, think again. Shito is a fiery pepper sauce which is popular in Ghana. Shito originated from the Ga and is a fan-favourite in Ghanaian cuisines. It is unambiguously spicy! Infused with pepper, fish and shrimp, shito creates the difference in any meal it is eaten with. 


Shito may be best served with Ghana jollof and a side dish of juicy, charcoal grilled chicken with vegetables. Shito brings out the magic in every meal. Get ready to fire up your tastebuds!

  • Cooking oil
  • 5 tablespoons  powdered pepper
  • 5 tablespoons  powdered fish
  • 3 tablespoons powdered shrimp or prawn
  • 2  onion bulbs
  • 1 sachet of tomato paste (optional)
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Blend onions and stir for about 10-15 minutes, till the water evaporates a little.
  3. Add powdered pepper and tomato paste and stir.
  4. After about 15 minutes, add fish powder and powdered shrimps and keep stirring.
  5. Add salt to taste.
  6. The mixture will turn brown after about 10 minutes. Leave to boil for a few more minutes.
  7. Stir occasionally and leave to boil on low heat until majority of the water has evaporated from the sauce.
  8. Put out the fire and let it cool. Dish it out into glass containers.
  9. Enjoy!
